How Can We Help?

Our purpose is to facilitate sustainable coexistence through being a vital reference source for landholders, regional communities and the onshore gas industry in Queensland.

What we do

The GasFields Commission is an independent statutory authority with a charter to educate, engage and inform on all aspects of the Queensland gas industry.

The Commissions key functions include -

  • Helping regional communities adapt to the introduction of natural gas development
  • Providing tools to enable informed decision making
  • Supporting best practice business to business relationships
  • Continuing to improve industry practice by all involved
  • Supporting respectful and balanced relationships in the gas fields
  • Acting as the first point of contact for anything to do with natural gas in Queensland
  • Compiling and distributing information about the gas industry
  • Providing contact details to assist in finding more help if needed

To assist us to deliver these services we have a network of locally based advisers who are able to identify emerging and legacy issues, recommend options to remedy problems and assist with information in response to questions or concerns.

What we don’t do.

  • We don’t become involved in one on one negotiations or disputes.
  • We don’t investigate complaints.
  • We don't manage water bore issues.

But we can point in the direction of the people who do perform these functions.

The GasFields Commission is governed by the Gasfields Commission Act 2013 and a review of the Commission by Robert Scott in 2016 laid a clear new direction for the Commission into the future.
